In 2006, we purchased a grand old stone maison de maitre in the village of Le Puy Notre Dame in the Loire Valley of France. Six years later we have begun to write about our experience renovating our Petite Chateau and living in our new French community. Until recently, we have been just too busy to write. You may see some of what we have done with our time on our rental website http://loirechateau.wordpress.com
We have been fortunate to choose our village. We have been welcomed by wonderful French friends, and many other friends who live nearby from throughout the world.
Le Puy Notre Dame is an attractive working village where wine has been produced for over a thousand years. We recently received a sub-appellation of Saumur-Le Puy Notre Dame reflecting the unique effect of the chalky soil caused by an ancient limestone sea bed.
The religious history of the village is apparent with the collegiale church and other historic buildings (including
our home). The rich history and culture of the area has been endlessly
fascinating. We have yet to visit a majority of the countless chateau
in the area. We are frequently surprised to discover a new village, building, wine, restaurant or other cultural phenomena.
We hope to convey some of our experience in this blog. Always feel free to contact us. We love talking about France.
